Good afternoon members, This morning there have ongoing discussions with Basketball WA and City of Mandurah following last night’s announcement by the Premier regarding restrictions post-lockdown, which will officially end at 6pm this evening. Due to the restrictions which will now be in place until Sunday 14th February – those being face masks being mandatory for everyone in an indoor venue (except Under 12s and those with medical exemptions), as well as a cap of 150 people at a venue at one time, this makes it impractical and difficult to run basketball activities across our Association. This means all players, coaches, referees, spectators and staff would need to wear a facemask while playing or training for basketball indoors. Outdoor basketball training will not require masks. Additionally, the 150 person venue cap at the MARC covers the 6 basketball courts + gymnasium + swimming pools + foyers + squash courts etc. Similarly this would apply to the Murray Leisure and Aquatic Centre and their various activities and areas.

As you can see, these restrictions which have been put in place for our safety by the State Government, would be overly restrictive in trying to play and train for basketball at this time. Therefore, this morning Mandurah Basketball Association has made the difficult but responsible decision to suspend our basketball competitions for all ages, as well as all development programs and WABL training sessions until Sunday 14th February. Basketball WA have also mandated that all competitions in the Metro and Peel regions will be suspended until Sunday 14th February including the cancellation of Week 3 of Country Championships next weekend affecting our Under 14 Boys and Girls teams. MBA will make further announcements on the resumption of basketball, once we are aware of the State Government’s restrictions (if any) from the 14th February. Further information on the current transitional restrictions can be found at the following website:
